Ilya Abramenko, his wife, and their son arrived in Phoenix, Arizona, in August 2005. Ilya is Russian and his wife is Meskhetian Turk. Through CWS affiliate Lutheran Social Ministry of the Southwest, the family was cosponsored by Orangewood Christian Reformed Church. This relationship has provided a support system instrumental in this family's success.
A church member secured Ilya a full-time job at Rapid Recovery, in Glendale. There, he custom manufactures the parts for refrigerant recovery machines, which he then assembles. On weekends, Ilya takes care of the Orangewood Christian Church grounds, while his wife, Lyubov, cleans the interior, and their son, Vladimir, plays or sleeps.
