Thirty young women students and 12 resource persons and trainers took part in an AIDS awareness seminar, July 2-6, 2007, near Alexandria, Egypt, with the support of the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF) and Church World Service.
The WSCF is a democratic network that brings together student Christian movements from more than 80 countries. It promotes dialogue on issues of peace and justice.
Due to sensitivities, HIV and AIDS awareness in the Middle East has been minimal. Following a recent UNDP report of increasing rates of HIV positive patients in the Arab world--especially among women--the women's program of the WSCF Middle East held the four-day seminar.
The conference included plenary sessions, working groups, workshops, and Bible studies. HIV/AIDS and related issues were discussed in depth. The training was recorded, and copies distributed to participants as a reference and training tool for their own presentations on HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention.
